WELLESLEY RUNNERS CHARITY SCAVENGER HUNT

Gun hill - oops!

“oh no, if you’re on the scavenger hunt, You’ve climbed the wrong hill.

From here, the town stretches below like a map of old campaigns. Cannons once stood watch where runners now catch their breath, and echoes of hill reps still whisper on the wind.

Your path was meant for Hospital Hill, but fate (and your legs) brought you here instead. So take this as a small reward — a riddle for the wanderer who strayed:

I guard the brave from years gone by,

My stone stands tall beneath the sky.

From Gun Hill’s view, look across to your right,

The next memorial’s yours to find.

Follow the path back to where queens avenue meet hospital hill,

And you’ll soon be where remembrance stands.”

more about…

Among the various war memorials in Aldershot, one of the earliest and most distinctive is the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) memorial situated at the top of Gun Hill.

This striking monument commemorates the RAMC personnel who died during the Second Boer War (1899-1902).
